The year 2009 marked three notable anniversaries in the life of Benito Mussolini. In 1919 he founded the Fasci di Combattimento – the original Fascist movement. Twenty years later, as Italy’s leader (Il Duce), he annexed Albania (his first major European conquest) and signed the Pact of Steel with Hitler’s Germany.
