Lancastrians Abroad, 1461-1471
Anthony Gross traces the tenacious efforts of Henry VI's partisans to regain the throne from the House of York, and at a strange alliance that nearly paid off.
The House of Lancaster went to a slow death. After the defeat of his forces at Towton in March 1461, Henry VI endured nine years in hiding and captivity before quarrels among the triumphant Yorkists engineered the short-lived restoration of 1470-71. Meanwhile, Henry's queen, Margaret of Anjou, and her son Edward spent the time shuttling anxiously among the principalities of Europe, soliciting military and financial backing.
