Kinjo Tenno: Emperor of Japan
The Japanese Emperor Hirohito, introduced by Richard Storry.
There can be little doubt that the Japanese monarchy is the oldest in the world, even when every allowance is made for the uncertainties imposed by the legends surrounding the early rulers of the land. The first of these, Jimmu Tenno, is said to have been the great-grandson of a deity who was himself the grandson of the Sun Goddess. Tradition attributes the foundation of the monarchy to the year 660 BC. Following the authorised genealogy the present occupant of the throne is the 124th Emperor of Japan.
