Reichstag Museum and Museum of German History
Ian R. Mitchell examines the museums of East and West Germany which provide contrasting views to German history.
East and West Berlin, which have split apart amoeba-like since 1945, are now ' really two separate cities. They have separate transport systems, Opera Houses, Universities and Zoos and, naturally for competing socia1 systems to whom the past is important, separate historical museums. These provide interesting and contrasting views of the German past, and examples of 'the museum as politics'.
