The successful invasion of England by William III of Orange, the flight of King James II, the coronation of William and Mary as joint monarchs of Great Britain arid the subsequent outbreak of war with France, between November 1688 and January 1689, naturally had a traumatic effect on the subjects of those monarchs who were living or trading in Asia. Moreover, several of the indigenous rulers and peoples were directly or indirectly involved in the later developments.
