It is not surprising that the National Maritime Museum is mounting an exhibition to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar: it is wholly to be expected that this institution, with its important collection of Nelson-related artefacts, should be creating a major display. But what may be striking is the inclusion of Napoleon Bonaparte in the exhibition narrative. Why is a British museum marking such a significant anniversary by bringing Nelson and Napoleon together in one display?
