Arthur, Duke of Brittany, nephew and designated heir to the throne of Richard the Lionheart, was imprisoned in April 1203 in Rouen Castle by his uncle and rival claimant King John and was never seen again. It was rumoured that John murdered Arthur personally while in a drunken rage and dumped his body in the Seine.
