Falklands War Twenty Years On
Duncan Anderson reflects on the Falklands War twenty years on.
This year hundreds of veterans of the South Atlantic campaign of 1982 will be returning to the Falklands to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the conflict. It is inevitable that the celebrations in Stanley, Darwin, Goose Green and Mount Pleasant will have a triumphal aspect. Most islanders deeply resented the Argentine occupation and were delighted with their liberation. In Britain there will be a more muted commemoration. In a fitting demonstration of a combined operation, the commandants of the British Royal Naval College Dartmouth and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, have decided to convene a joint conference on the campaign which will be held at Sandhurst between June 12th and 14th.
