The English Labour Movement 1700-1951
Kenneth D. Brown

David Goodway
Students of the English labour movement in both its political and industrial aspects may be grateful to Dr Brown for his clear exposition of developments over the past two centuries. Broader than a mere history of trade unionism and wider than a study of the origins and history of the Labour Party, this book pulls together and examines various strands and interpretations of labour history since the industrial revolution. As a bonus there is an excellent introductory chapter by a colleague, Dr L.A. Clarkson, on the development of wage labour between 1500 and 1800 which makes sense of a difficult topic with admirable clarity.
