Customer Service Executive

Location: London/Hybrid 
Salary: £28,500 pro-rata 
Job Type: Part-time. Three days a week with flexible working 
Reporting to: Head of Marketing

History Today is Britain’s longest running history magazine, renowned for publishing the best writing from the world’s leading historians.

The Customer Service Executive will be the first point of contact for our dedicated subscribers and new customers alike. We are looking for someone who is articulate, organised, process driven, proactive and takes pride in delighting customers. Your professional and personable manner will give our readers a first-class impression of History Today.

This is a rare opportunity to become a critical member of our small, highly skilled and motivated team at one of the UK’s most respected independent publishers.  The role offers the right candidate both the opportunity to learn and innovate as well as a high level of autonomy.

Key tasks

  • Process new subscription orders, renewals and subscription changes e.g. changes to addresses or payment methods, using our subscription platform - Chargebee 
  • Provide first-class customer service by email and phone 
  • Process product orders using the Shopify platform, liaising with the mailing company and managing stock 
  • Liaise with subscription agents to process their orders and ensure financial reports are shared in a timely manner. 
  • Work with the Head of Marketing to ensure we offer customers the best subscription packages 
  • Suggest and implement improvements to current processes 
  • Disseminate customer feedback among the team

Qualifications and attributes

• Previous experience working with customers, ideally in a customer service role
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) 
• A positive attitude and a passion for helping others 
• Experience of working productively in an office environment 
• Demonstratable ability to work accurately and to follow processes 
• Some experience of working with a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems is preferred 
• An interest in history would be beneficial

Note: no previous, direct experience of the Chargebee or Shopify platforms is necessary but experience of similar systems or tasks would be beneficial.

Working arrangements

Salary: £28,500 pro rata plus eligibility for the company’s pension scheme and discretionary bonus scheme. 
Leave: pro-rated from 25 days a year, in addition our office closes between Christmas and New Year.
