Valery Rees looks at the Florentine scholar Marsilio Ficino and finds a man whose work still speaks to us today.
In October this year it will be 500 years since Marsilio Ficino died in Florence. Although we risk becoming sated with centenaries, some events and individuals stand out as deserving of celebration: Marsilio Ficino is one of these.
If his name is not as well known as those of his illustrious followers, it is not surprising, as we shall see from his career. Nor would this state of affairs have entirely displeased him, for he was a modest man.
