The History Today Companion to British History

This is an ambitious book. It contains the labours of a team of specialist historians who have identified more than 4,500 of the most significant aspects, personalities and events of British history from the time of the Roman invasion to 1979. Their work is refreshing in that it refers to all types of history, including naval, legal and cultural as well as the more usual social, economic, political and constitutional. The entries are presented in alphabetical order and range from the Treaty of Aachen to the Zulu War.
